Description:

Pavel Golovanov of Mstera painted this work. His style is a blend of the decorational style that Mstera is known for, and a stylized way of painting that resembles elements taken from icon painting. Many collectors worldwide have taken notice that he constantly paints original works of art. He is heavily influenced by fellow artist Andrey Grachyov, whose works find themselves in museums and private collections in Europe and the US. Golovanov has taken the best of Grachyov's style and blended it with his own view on how the world (real or artificial) should look with his brush.
The work is called "God's Fool" (idiot believed to possess the gift of prophecy) or "Blazheniy" as the Russians call such a man. It shows a Russian saint who prays for peace in the world, and asks God to forgive people for their sins. His prayers are heard as the Angel depicted in the upper corner of the box, is sent to help people.
A very soft combination of tones makes up the artist's palette. Light blues, yellows, and even reds are used in conjunction with light grays and greens. Gold and aluminum are used to bring out the details in the composition, but this is done with great subtlety and does not overpower the palette he uses.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. Alternating gold and aluminum ornamentation frame the scene, while another gold and aluminum design wraps around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, and the title on the bottom of the box.
