Description:

Konstantin Bakhilin of Mstera is the artist who painted this scene from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen". At the top of the composition we can see the evil dwarfs holding a magic mirror while the rest part of the composition shows the Snow Queen looking through the window at Kay and Gerda playing in their small garden.
Cold blue tones are used to paint the Snow Queen while Gerda, Kay and the garden are drawn in warm tones. The window, the fence and the stars on the sky are drawn in gold paint.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache.Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with luxuriant gold ornamentation. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, the year of 2004 and the title.
