Description:

This enchanting piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by famous Mstera master Nikolay Molodkin. His elaborate style is well established in the lacquer community.
This large box is painted on the historic subject, and describes the Wars of the Roses (1455-1487). It was a series of dynastic civil wars fought in England between supporters of the Houses of Lancaster and York.
The style is similar to the style of his father, Vladimir Molodkin. The palette reflects a beautiful combination of light blue and brown tones. Gold paint is used to enhance the details and bring out the true boldness of the palette.
The scene is framed with a very thin gold line. The edges of the lid are adorned with gold foliage pattern. The similar gold foliage pattern but a little bigger in size can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, the title (“The War of White and Red Roses”), Mstera and the year of 2008 on the lid's interior within a beautiful pattern.
