Description:

Daniil Molodkin is one of the most popular Mstera artists around nowadays. His individual style attracts more and more amateurs all over the world. While many artists are reproducing older works, others like Daniil are paving the way for other artists, and creating works that will be reproduced in the future.
The box shows several scenes from Saltykov-Shchedrin's satirical literary work "The Tale of How a Muzhik Fed Two Generals" that was written in 1869. In this fantastic story Saltykov-Shchedrin criticized political establishment and society of his time. Two generals miraculously left St.-Petersburg and found themselves on a desert, tropical island (this scene is painted in the left part of the composition). They weren't capable of working and nearly died from hunger. They saw juicy fruits but couldn't climb tall trees and get them. They saw different fish, birds, and animals but didn't know how to cook them (this scene is painted in the center of the composition). Later they met the muzhik who saved them from hunger, built a ship, and managed to carry them back to St.-Petersburg. In the end of the story the muzhik didn't receive gratitude from the generals; his reward was a glass of vodka. (this scene is painted in the right part of the composition).
The composition is filled with various plants, flowers, fruits and birds. Bright green, blue and orange tones help to create the stylized atmosphere that make Daniil's compositions uniquely his own. Gold as always is used to enhance the details.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The scene is outlined with gold. A gold wavy pattern decorates the edges of the lid while more complex foliage pattern decorates the sides of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, the year of 2010 and the title on the box's exterior bottom.
