This quite busy composition has been painted by famous Mstera artist Vladimir Moshkovich. A lot of his original designs were used by Mstera factory for copies, this can only prove that the master is one of the best and continue the traditions of Mstera lacquered miniature.
Here he has drawn some scenes from the Russian fairy-tale "The Scarlet Flower" which is the same to well-known tale "Beauty and the Beast". On the box's lid we can see the merchant with his youngest beloved daughter, that asked father to bring her a Scarlet Flower. He has promised to bring this flower as a present to his beloved daughter. To the left the artist has drawn the merchant who approaches the monster's palace on board of his sailing ship; the merchant who presents the scarlet flower to his beloved daughter; and the merchant's older daughters admiring their rich presents.
The palette includes various shades of red, brown and blue. Gold paint is used to add detail, while it also adds a definitive sparkle to the scenes. Each of the scenes are balanced and continued one another.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold and aluminum ornamentation. A hinge has been fastened along the top of the composition and the box rests on four small round legs. The work is signed and titled by the author.
