Description:

This large and fascinating box painted on all five sides is a creation of famous Mstera master Yuriy Zhigalov.
This is a style of miniature painting pioneered in Mstera primarily by Yevgeniy Yurin. In the mid-30s he created an original style of decorative painting that came to be known as the "Yurin's ornament". He then focused on compositions themselves, painting a bouquet of flowers, fruits or berries set against a brown, black, green or blue grid and encircled on all sides with his ornaments of interlaced scrolls, starlets, spots, petals and leaflets.
This style has been handed down to skilled artists in Mstera today such as Yuriy Zhigalov who come to specialize in this unique style of painting floral compositions. Yuriy Alexandrovich produced various original works that were participants of exhibitions all over Russia, and ten miniatures by the painter have received first prizes.
In this scene a bouquet of varied flowers - daisies and roses, along with all sorts of greenery are painted in gold paints, subdued reds and greens against the yellow background. These patters are drawn in gold metal paints and highlighted with blue and red tempera paints. The box sparkles with the gold detailing.
More bouquets can be found on the box's sides!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened along the top of the composition and the box rests on the four small round legs. The work is signed and titled by the author at the exterior's bottom.
