Description:

This original-shaped box is a creation of talented artist and teacher of Mstera's Art School Nikolay Molodkin. His father is the famous Mstera Master Vladimir Molodkin, his brothers- Denis and Daniil, are the leading artists of the village Mstera as well.
This box is named "Scarlet Flower" and shows several episodes from this interesting tale.
Tale of "The Scarlet Flower" is very similar to that of the American tale "The Beauty and the Beast". A beautiful girl is trapped inside a beast's home, because she has no choice, and the beast is afraid to show himself due to his appearance. The beast lives in fear of not being loved by the girl, but she truly loves him. In the end the beast turns into the handsome prince and marries the girl.
The box features several scenes from this tale, and you can easily remember its plot. The girl's father sails on board the merchant ship. There is the scene showing the beast hiding behind the bushes as he doesn't want the girl see him. The merchant has brought his daughters the presents. The older sisters try on the smart clothes, while the youngest one holds the magic scarlet flower in her hands. The merchant tells his daughters about his adventures. The merchant looks at the scarlet flower that grows in the beast's garden and decides to steal it. The beast turns into the handsome prince. The artist depicts the wedding of the prince (the former beast) and the girl.
The color palette is based on harmonious combinations of brown, blue and yellow tones. Gold paint is used with great care and precision in the compositions. The application of the gold is very well done, and only enhances the flair of the box without overpowering the eye!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The box has one large lid and 3 other compartments over it, each of them has own lid with a hinge. There is a large drawer compartment in a base.
The box rests on four small round legs. The work is signed, dated (2015) and titled by the author.
