This original box was created by Alexei Lapshin from the village of Palekh. Here he depicts the cat dreaming of a delicious dinner. In the left and right corners of the composition the artist depicts the objects of his dreams - mice dressed in human clothes. The cat also dreams of tasty sausages that is why the box's sides are decorated with gold patterns painted in the form of sausages. To paint this box the artist uses only gold paints and the black background typical for all Palekh boxes.
The edges of the lid are decorated with gold beads.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The box is hinged from the left and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the artist's name, the village of Palekh, and the year of 2005.
