This small box has been created by Alexey Lapshin from the village of Palekh. It features rather unusual subject: the medieval scientist performs an experiment using the pendulum. The drawing is skillfully painted in gold paints over the black lacquer.
The sides of the box are decorated with original gold ornamentation.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Palekh, and the year of 2004.
