This traditional Palekh box was painted by M. Zolotoryova. It shows a lad and a girl standing at the well. The lad offers the girl to fill the buckets with water. The girl smiles and probably tells her friend some village news.
The scene is painted in bright red, green and blue tones against the black background. Aluminum paint details the sea; gold paint details the costumes, the plants and the architecture.
The scene is framed with gold and aluminum beads. More complex ornamentation highlighted with aluminum paints wraps around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed by the artist.
