This beautiful box that is called "Winter" is a creation of the Palekh artist O. Kalashnikova. It features peasant girls and lads making a snowman. The surrounding winter landscape is painted in blue-greenish tones, while the architecture and all characters are painted in different shades of brown. Aluminum paint highlights the snow, while gold paint is used to detail every minute element of the scene.
The scene is framed with gold beads. The sides are decorated with beautiful gold ornamentation completed with silver snowflakes.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed by the artist.
