Description:

This box has been created by the young and talented artist Anastasia Denisenko from the village of Palekh. She is a daughter of the famous Palekh artist Marina Denisenko. Anastasia has her own peculiar style of painting, and undoubtedly in the nearest future she will be one of the most popular artists in the field of lacquer art painting.
The box features a scene from the Gogol's Christmas fairy-tale "The Night on Christmas Eve". Here we can see the smith, Vakula, proposing marriage to the most beautiful girl in the village. The girl also loves the smith, but decides to flirt with him before saying "yes". She promises to marry Vakula if he presents her the shoes that queens wear.
The palette is based on contrast colors. Bright red and orange tones are combined here with cool and rather dark blues. Aluminum paints are used to highlight the snow, while gold paints are used to detail the costumes of all characters.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with beautiful gold and aluminum patterns.
The box is constructed out of high-grade paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Anastasia wrote Palekh and her name at the bottom of the composition in gold paints.
