Description:

This small charming box has been created by Ekaterina Meshkova (Bykova) from the village of Palekh. It features the elf-girl sitting on the big mushroom among flowers, and holding the necklace made out of tiny drops of dew. The flowers and plants are detailed with gold paints; the elf'-girl's hair and wings are highlighted with aluminum dust.
The scene is framed with a thin gold line; the edges of the lid are decorated with a foliage gold pattern. The same pattern wraps around the box's bottom border. The sides of the box are decorated with intricate gold patterns completed with the images of flowers and butterflies painted in bright tempera paints. This original decoration suits perfectly to the scene painted on the lid.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The artist's name, the title ("The Flower Elf"), the year of 2006, the confirmation that this box is the original work, and the village of Palekh can be found on the lid's interior painted in gold paints.
