This box featuring an unusual and merry scene is a creation of Ludmila Rodinova from the village of Palekh. Naughty elves ride the peacock making fun of this beautiful but very proud bird. The elves are very interestingly painted; they don't look like the elves we usually come across in works of other lacquer miniature painters. It demonstrates the artist's non-standard thinking and fertile fantasy.
The box sides are decorated with rich and intricate gold patterns.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed, titled ("Elves and the Peacock") and dated (2006) by the artist under the scene in gold paints.
