This beautiful bright work was created by the talented Palekh artist Marina Denisenko.
The box shows peasant girls gathering Water Melons. Just above their heads there are large sunflowers. The similar sunflowers decorate the sides of the box.
The palette is especially bright in this composition, which employs green, pink,and brown paints. Gold paint is used to add minute detail to almost every aspect of the scene!
The box is made of paper-mache.
Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is not hinged, and the box rests flat. The box is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
