This small Palekh box is an enchanting creation of Nina Bogachyova. Here she has chosen to depict a recognizable moment from the story of "Morozko". The innocent stepdaughter is left in the woods by her poor father. He has done it by order of his despotic wife who intended to kill the girl. He is depicted in the background; he rides in the carriage through the forest back to the village. Fortunately, the forest spirit, Morozko, finds the stepdaughter and saves her. This moment is drawn in the center of the composition.
The depicted scene is an absolute delight. The details are enhanced tremendously by the golden contours illuminating each and every inch of the moment composed.
The scene is framed with gold beads while the box's sides are decorated with a gold scrolling pattern. The box is constructed from papier-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, the title and the year of 2008.
