Larisa Mazurina of Palekh has created this beautiful box displaying villagers enjoying the simple pleasures of winter.
The cold light blue colors that the artist uses convey the cold winter weather. Gold and aluminum paint is used throughout the scene to outline and detail.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The scene is framed with gold beads while the box's sides are decorated with gold and aluminum floral pattern; gold beads can be also found wrapping around the box's bottom edge. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2003.
