This small, round box is a creation of Kuznetsova from the village of Palekh. Here she has painted a recognizable scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Grey Wolf". Ivan has caught the Fire Bird that has been filching golden apples from his father's orchard. Red, green and blue tones of tempera paints predominate here. Various details are enhanced with gold and aluminum paint. Gold and aluminum are also used to decorate the box's exterior with elegant patterns.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2007.
