Description:

This traditional Palekh box has been painted by Anna Milashova. It shows a recognizable scene from Pushkin's “Tale of the Sleeping Princess and Seven Bogatyrs”. The Queen's servant has come to the house of seven bogatyrs to kill the Sleeping Princess with a poisoned apple.
As customary with Palekh tradition, the black lacquer exterior also acts like the background for the scene. This furthers the intense beauty of the gold and aluminum contours. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2004.
