This gorgeous Palekh box has been created by N. Matyushkina. The work is called “Winter Morning”. Painted in the traditional Kholui style, it extols the beauty of Russian countryside in winter. Blue tones of tempera paints predominate here. Various details are enhanced with gold and silver paint.
The box's exterior is decorated with luxuriant and very intricate gold ornamentation accented with aluminum.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with Palekh, the title, the year of 2006 and the artist's name.
