Yevgenia Shatokhina of Palekh (or "Zhenya" for short, as she signs the piece) is the author of this nice round box. It shows a pretty girl who sits on the blooming meadow, and enjoys the singing of a small bird that has landed on her palms. Gold and aluminum paint is used to detail each element of the composition. This builds radiance and texture, both at the same time.
The box is decorated with rolling golden filigree around the composition and around the base we have a well executed filigree design that alternates between gold and aluminum.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on three round legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2006.
