Title: Tale of Emelya and the Magic Pike

Description:

Kuznetsova Marina of Palekh is the author of this small five-sided casket. It shows a recognizable moments from the popular Russian fairy-tale "By the Pike's Will" or "Emelya and the Magic Pike". On the top we can see Emelya who has caught the magic pike. In return for releasing her, the Magic Pike offers to fulfill Emelia's wishes. On the sides we can see different magical things that happen- Emelya is going to visit the Tsar on the oven, the fire wood is cutting by themselves, the buckets are filling with water and going to the house as well by themselves and Emelya is in love with Tsar's daughter.
The scene is drawn in the traditional Palekh style, and richly detailed with gold and aluminum paint. Gold ornament decorate the edges of the lid, while the edges of box's sides are adorned with rolling golden filigree and gold dots.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four round legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2005.
