This non-typical for Palekh small five-sided casket was painted by a talented artist Ekaterina Bykova.
The artist was born in country of Kazakhstan in 1971 and has been studied in Palekh Art school in 1986-1991.
The box is called "February" and shows outdoor activity of Russian villagers. Some of them painted doing regular life activity- lady is bringing the water in buckles on the shoulder-yoke. Another painted as a family went out with kids and just walking, top of the casket showing a group, that made a snowman.
Another family is out with a doggy, and on other side we can see an older boy carring in the sledge younger sister.
The faces of all the characters are attractive and very well painted.
The painting is not typical for Palekh because it does not have traditional black back-ground, plus figures are painted in more realistic style, not iconic. But it is richly headlined with a gold, which is a feature of Palekh style of painting. And, of cource, it is painted in tempera colors.
The painting on a lid is framed with a gold line, similar gold line is came across the painting on the sides.
The box is made of paper-mache, the lid is hinged to the top of the painting. The box rests on four legs. The box is signed by the artist on the interior of the lid with the artist name, title, Palekh and the art work of "February" in gold color.
