This charming five-sided casket has been painted by a talented Palekh artist Zolotareova Natalia. It shows all kinds of winter outdoor fun in countryside. Children often are sledging down the hill, playing snowballs, teenagers are dating...
On the lid of the casket a girl is coming to fill the buckets with water from the frosted river and a lad is near by to help or flirt. On the front side there is a ladyat the well and a father with a child, to the left -mother and child are feeding birds. On the back side of the casket- children are sledging down the hill, and on the right side, the lad is flirting with a young girl.
For this composition Zolotareova has used a lot of gold and silver headlining that are the most suitable for depiction of a winter scene, painted in Palekh style.
The composition is framed with a rich gold ornamentation which also scattered the box's sides and a part of the base.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on two sided platform. The box is signed with the name of the artist and Palekh under the composition on the lid.
