Description:

This beautifully intricate piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by V. Andriashkina and R. Andriashkin from the village of Palekh. It features a scene from the French folk fairy-tale called "King-Raven". This tale tells about the beautiful young girl who was destined to marry the King Raven. Her husband was half a man, half a bird. Later she knew that he had been enchanted by the wicked magician. This magician had turned her husband, the young handsome prince, into the huge raven. All people of his kingdom had also been turned into ravens. It was she, the fragile young girl, who could destroy evil spell.
This piece symbolizes the architecture of the fairy-tale miniature. The characters stand out tremendously. The landscape is much more than a compliment. Graceful festivity that is an absolute joy to appreciate. This is a very well executed piece.
The sky is entirely gold and this produces a heavenly completion to the presentation. It is also the artist's use of bright golden and aluminum contours that makes this moment so invigorating.
The scene is decorated with a gold line, and each corner of the lid is adorned with a tiny gold flower accented with aluminum. More complex gold ornamentation decorates the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers its exterior and red lacquer covers its interior. The box has a hinge from the left of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The artist wrote her name, the village name of Palekh, the title and the year of 2004 in gold paints at the bottom of the scene.
