Description:

This beautiful box has been painted by Roman Chibisov from the village of Palekh. It features several scenes from the fairy-tale "The Golden Mountain". This tale tells about adventures of the miller's son. Once after losing all his money, he engaged himself to a rich merchant. They sailed to the merchant's rich house, where the miller's son met the merchant's daughter. The miller's son was handsome, and the girl fell in love with him. Once she gave the miller's son her comb and said that he could use it in case of appearing of some problems. When it was time to fulfill the merchant's work, the miller's son took the magic comb with him. They left the merchant's house, and came to the high golden mountain. "Let's drink water before starting to work to refresh ourselves", - offered the merchant and gave the miller's son a glass of water where narcotic was dissolved. The lad drank water and fell asleep. The merchant killed the horse, put the sleeping lad inside the horse's belly and sewed it up. Soon ravens flew, took the horse's corpse, and brought it at the top of the golden mountain. When the miller's son woke up surrounded with the horse's remains torn to pieces, he said: "Where am I?!". "You are on the golden mountain, take the shovel and start to dig out gold for me!"
