Description:

This round box is a very well done work of Palekh artist Marina Denisenko. It features the final scene from the Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan" originally painted by Khodova Tatiana .
The composition includes twenty one human figures. Each of the characters has an individual look, with well-defined features and detailed costumes. The family is reunited at last, and a sumptuous feast is arranged to celebrate this happy occasion.
The scene is richly enhanced with gold and aluminum metallic paint that adds a rich brightness to the work.
The scene is framed with gold wavy pattern accompanied by silver dots. A wide band composed of gold and aluminum floral patterns can be found wrapping around the box's sides. A thick gold serpentine line decorates the box's bottom border.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
