This box is a creation of famous Roman Chibisov whose sumptuous painting style is always easy to recognize. It shows the characters of Lewis Carroll's (1832-1898) classic tale "Alice in Wonderland".
In the foreground we can see Alice who pursues the White Rabbit while in the background the artist has painted the Hat, the Hare and the Dormouse drinking tea, and the Cheshire Cat sitting on the tree. The rest part of the composition shows the Queen, the King and their suite.
The scene is painted in bright tempera paints. Gold paint is applied with a very thin brush to add various details. The ornamentation of the box's exterior is amazing. On the box's sides Chisov has drawn the bright red roses accompanied by playing cards over gold metal leaf inlay.
The box is made of paper-mache. The hinge is located to the top of the composition.
