This magnificent Palekh box is a creation V. Zolotaryov. Here he has drawn some scenes from the Russian fairy-tale “The Scarlet Flower”. On the box's lid we can see the merchant sleeping in the monster's beautiful garden near the magic scarlet flower. He has promised to bring this flower as a present to his beloved daughter. On the box's sides the artist has drawn the merchant who approaches the monster's palace on board of his sailing ship; the merchant who presents the scarlet flower to his beloved daughter; and the merchant's older daughters admiring their rich presents.
The palette contains bold and vivacious colors. Gold and aluminum paints are used to detail the scenes throughout. Gold and aluminum paints are also used to decorate the box's exterior with luxuriant ornaments.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2008.
