Description:

Natalya Kornilova has etched out for herself a special niche in Palekh miniature art. Her compositions are easily recognizable for their broad color spectrum, precise but soothing lines, and exceptional gold highlighting. Her original compositions draw the viewer into her world of fairytale, legend, and adventure.
Here the artist has chosen to depict a recognizable scene from the timeless fairy tale of Cinderella, ", or "Zolushka" (it is the Russian version of the tale). The sumptuous ball is in full swing, but Cinderella is obliged to leave it. It's midnight. Very soon magic will stop working, and her rich costume will turn into a shabby dress.
Kornilova uses a celebration of color to compose this beautiful scene. Everything is smoothly applied. The colors glide upon the surface of the box. A variety of oranges, greens and browns dictate the fairy-tale feel of the composition. Gold and aluminum are used with great intricacy and delicacy to develop the finer elements in the scene. Kornilova paints with excellent detail here, combining a great deal into a small space without losing any clarity.
The edges of the lid are adorned with a gold swirling pattern. Gold beads wrap around the bottom part of the box's sides. In the middle of the box's side you can find an intricate floral pattern painted in gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed out of high-quality paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
