This stunning box that shows some scenes from J.R.R. Tolkien “The Lord of the Rings" is a creation of Roman Chibisov. Each box of this talented Palekh artist is a little treasure. Chibisov has individual painting technique characterized by the abundant use of gold and silver paint and gold metal leaf inlay used as an underlayer for tempera paints and black lacquer.
The box demonstrates splendidness of Chibisov's painting style. The colors are beautifully matched here. Dark grey and blue tones are combined here with light greens and browns. The box's sides are decorated with a wide band of floral patterns painted over gold metal leaf inlay.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, and the village of Palekh.
