Description:

This adorable plate is painted in the traditional style of Palekh lacquered miniature by the experienced artist, Tatiana Surkova.
Surkova was born in 1956 in the village of Palekh. She comes from the family of artists. Her mother is L.A. Surkova and her father is M.I. Surkov. During 1971-1976, she studied in the Palkekh Art School. Her teacher was N.F. Vikhrev. She is a member of the Union of Artists of Russian Federation since 1989. Her works are exhibited in the State Museum of Palekh Art and in the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum.
The plate shows a warm summer day in a Russian village. Happy peasants dance on the bridge and sing inside the boat, the others gather mushrooms and berries in the forest, fish or pasture cattle. They all enjoy warmth of summer and aroma of wild flowers.
The palette is full of greens to represent the idea of a summer season. Surkova paints the costumes of the peasants in bright reds and oranges to focus a viewer's attention of them. All minute details are enhanced with lustrous gold and silver paint. Gold paint is also used to decorate the plate's exterior with attractive and neat leafy patterns. The piece is made out of high-quality paper-mache and can be hung on the wall.
