This Easter egg is a wonderful creation of Zolotaryova from the village of Palekh. Like a nesting doll this egg contains two additional, hollowed eggs. Each of the eggs depicts happy peasants enjoying winter holidays. The palette is dominated by blue tones of tempera paints suitable for reproduction a winter season. As customary with Palekh tradition, the black lacquer exterior also acts as the background for the scenes. This creates a spectacular glow for the bright gold and aluminum contours.
Each egg is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of each egg while red lacquer completes the interior of each egg. The exterior of each egg is decorated with very intricate gold and silver designs. The lid of each egg is hinged. The work is signed with the name of the artist and the village of Palekh.
