This wonderful dual-sided box has been painted by a talented Palekh artist, Marya Gurilyeva. Her works enjoy wide popularity among collectors all over the world.
The box shows two moods of a young girl. The one is showing her morning wake up and the begging of a day and the other side shows her Spring Dreaming.
The drawing is a rich sea of details. The interior of the room where the action takes place is formed with accurate brushwork that smoothly depicts the big window covered with elegant patterns. Everything is in perfect harmony with each other.
Warm green tones of tempera colors are used to paint the green park and a river on the back side. Gold and silver detailing outlines, highlights, and provides light in every element of the composition. The use of metallic paint is executed with precision and with an unbelievably steady hand that is able to paint with razor like thinness. The box is made out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with intricate gold and silver ornaments.
