This splendid box has been created by Masha Lebedeva from the village of Palekh. It shows a romantic scene. The chimney sweep and the beautiful lady walk along the roofs during the starlit night.
The composition is masterfully designed. Skillfully painted architecture surrounds the characters and the bright blue area of the lake. The architecture composed of a multitude of towers, balconies, roofs, and arches is a real embellishment of the work. The use of gold contouring within the scene is astounding. Hand painted poetry it is.
The scene is framed with gold beads. The lid's sides are adorned with the intricate gold pattern. The sides of the box's body are decorated with beautiful gold and aluminum ornamentation.
The box is constructed out of papier-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge affixed from the top of the composition, and rests on a flat bottom. This original author's work is signed by the artist.
