This interesting box was painted by Galkina Marina from the village of Palekh. It shows several elves gathering strawberries in a forest grass between the fly-agaric mushrooms. One couple is just sit on the bushes (top of the box)the rest are enjoying a day.
The scene is painted in different colors over a gold metal leaf. Owing to it the scene is very expressive and decorative. Gold foil background also gives the composition three dimensional features. Gold paint is used to detail the leaves, mushrooms and the elves hairs.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while a red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid are framed with a string of golden beads. The sides of the box are decorated with complex floral gold patterns. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, dated (2008) and titled ("Flower fairytale") by the artist.
