This exquisite set of Palekh lacquer miniature art is a creation of Galina Kuzmenko.
The set includes seven compartments that rest on the round shaped tray. Four of seven boxes including the central box are attached to the tray whereas another three of them can be easily moved away from the tray. The set looks like a daisy and each of its petals is a box.
The work is based on a tale of Sadko, and on the lid of each compartment Kuzmenko has painted some scenes from that tale. Each scene is painted in bright tempera paints over the traditional Palekh black background and richly detailed with gold and aluminum paints. The set is constructed of paper-mache and pressed paper. The exterior of the set is covered with black lacquer while the interior of each box is covered with red lacquer. The exterior of the set is decorated with intricate gold ornamentation. The lid of each box is hinged except the lid of the central box. The tray rests on three legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh and the title-Sadko.
