This casket is an original masterwork of the talented Palekh artist Natalya Kornilova. Its entire surface is covered with colorful paintings.
On the top we can see scenes from the tale of Prince Ivan the Gray Wolf . The box's front side features the familiar moments from Ruslan and Ludmila tale. On the right side-Snowmaiden and Lel, on the left-The Seven Semeons. The box's rear side shows magic jump of Sivka-Burka.
The scenes are painted in the traditional Palekh style. The details are enhanced with gold and aluminum paints. Gold paints are also used to paint the attractive patterns that frame the box's lid, and wrap around the bottom and upper parts of the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged, and the box sits on two platforms. The work is signed by the artist.
