This splendid Palekh box is a creation of the well-known miniature artist Tatiana Kamanina. Her favorite themes to depict are Russian folklore and themes from real life.
The work is called "Summer Evening" and shows a noble family drinking tea from samovar. In this scene the artist has managed to express a romantic feeling of the bygone centuries and a special, aristocratic charm of Russian nobility.Kids are playing with puppies near by.
The depicted family is painted in the garden. On the back stage we can see buildings of a town. The scene painted in beautifully combined tempera paints is masterfully detailed with gold and silver outlines. Gold and silver paint is also used to decorate the box's exterior with intricate floral patterns.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the name of the artist, Palekh, the title and the year of 2017.
