The work of the World known Palekh Master, one of the founders of Artel/Cooperative of Palekh Art in 1924, Vladimir Vasilievich Kotukhin. Participant of the exibitions since 1924. Vladimir is the brother of another founders of Artel, Kotukhin Alexander Vasilievich.
The box shows an episode from Folk story of Iliya from the town of Murom.
After making several heroic deeds, Iliya came on a horse to a crooss-road and read on the stone:
If you will go straight, you will be killed,
If you will turn to the right, you will be married,
If you will turn to the left, you will be rich.
The painting of the oil-on-canvas version was painted by Victor Vasnetsov in 1882, now in Russian State Museum (St.Petersburg).
