Description:

This attractive Santa-Claus has been made in the town of Sergiev Posad. It is cut out of wood and painted with bright water-colors. Santa-Claus is dressed in the warm fur and hat; he carries the sack with presents for children on his back; in his left hand he holds the magic rod, and in his right hand he holds the basket. Santa's rode is removable, so it can be easily extracted from his hand. His fur and shirt are covered with bright, vivid winter scenes. The scene painted on his shirt (at the front side of the doll) features the merry girl holding a small kitten, and all around her spreads the beautiful winter landscape filled with peasant houses, trees and firs wrapped in white snow. The scene painted on Santa's fur (at the back of the doll) shows the girl feeding forest birds and all around her spreads the similar winter landscape that can be found on his shirt. Blue, white and light brown paints predominate here. Gold paint is used to paint the tip of the rod as well as its end. The most laborious work has been made while cutting out the face and the beard of Santa. This work has been done perfectly as the doll looks like a real wooden sculpture! The work isn't signed by the master who created it.
