Description:

Leading Fedoskino Master Oleg Shapkin is a creator of this very detailed composition. Shapkin's name is mentioned in every book written on Fedoskino lacquer miniature, and he himself has written very informative articles on this subject. He graduated from St.Petersburg's Art Institute and before that he had the privilege of being one of Gennady Larishev's student among with Sergey Kozlov, the Rogatovs family and Elena Khomutinnikova.
During his career Shapkin won many honorable prizes, including the Artist's Union Prize of USSR (1985). His works are exhibited in different museums such as the State Russian Museum, the Moscow Regional Art Museum situated in the town of Istra and the State Historical Museum and now this box is displayed in All-Russia Museum of decorative, folk and Applied Art in Moscow.
This impressive Shapkin's art work has been painted on a theme of Masquerade. Here we can see a lady and her cavalier in beautiful costumes at masquerade. Face of a man is covered with a mask with a long nose. Masquearde is taking place outside in a park.On a right hand side we can see a parrot, while on the background on a left hand side we can see other pairs. Details are so rich and amazing, that you can't believe that it is possible to paint them...Gorgeous...
The palette incorporates brown and gray oils, with addition of gold and silver metal paints to give a feeling of magic and splendor. The artist demonstrates his unsurpassed skill while painting human festive attires. Painting with an ultra fine brush, he creates exquisite gold lace texture of their clothes. The painting is done over several pieces of mother-of-pearl!
The box's exterior is adorned with fantastically beautiful gold lace patterns! This pattern became a visit card of Shapkin.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with the artist's name and the name of a village of Fedoskino and 2013.
As many of Shapkin's masterpieces-this is a gem of any collection!
