In 1972 the artist finished the Kholui Art School where he studied under Starikov N.V., Turunov I.I. and Novosiolov V.K. One can still see a little of their influence in Malkov's work, especially in the pieces that reflect a strong folk art theme. His Diploma work was a composition “Pedlars ”.

While working at a composition Viktor pays a special attention to painting ornamental patterns of Russian costume and that is why his works are easily recognizable by expressive painting of clothes. He applies in work his personal artistic methods that he prefers to keep in a secret. His compositions are mainly painted in ochre tones.
Works by the famous Kholui artists Belov V.A., Baburin N.I and Krotov V.A. had a great influence on the artist’s creative work.
