Description:

Lubov Krasnolobodtseva, from the village of Fedoskino is the talented artist who painted this masterful work. The box portrays Sir Winston Churchill. In this portrait the artist has managed to reproduce a photo like copy of a portrait!
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill(30 November 1874 - 24 January 1965) was a British politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Widely regarded as one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th century, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. He is the only British Prime Minister in history to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and was also the first person to be made an Honorary Citizen of the United States.
The portraits like this one were very popular at the beginning of the ninetieth century. P.V. Lukutin factory produced a large quantity of lacquered boxes that depicted the portrait of famous recognizable persons.
The portrait is nicely painted using various tones of oils. The brown background shines with gold paint that has been used as an underlayer for the oils. The edges of the lid are adorned with a gold line.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2012.
