A family couple, the Terentievs- Olga and Sergey from the village of Palekh is responsible for the composition of this box. This box shows a summer activity of Russian villagers.
Having gone away from a village, woman with two kids stroll in the woods, filling their baskets with berries, hazelnuts or mushrooms. Acidentially they have found a family of elks, Mom and two cubs in the forest.
The palette is based on earth tones that convey the sense of the rural atmosphere. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life. The entire scene sparkles brightly with gold and aluminum!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The exterior is decorated with rich and intricate gold and silver ornaments. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a wavy platform with eight legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and Palekh.
