Description:

This five-sided casket has been painted by a talented artist Yuliya Konovalova from the village of Palekh. The box's lid and all it's four sides show the scenes from Russian folk fairy-tales!
The box's lid shows the red Sun. On the front side we can see the Flying carpet with Ivan and Princess on it. On a right side of the box-Ivan is catching a Fire-Bird. On a left side- Princess is coming out of the Palace. And on the back side- Prince Gvidon is waiting for the fleet of Tsar Saltan.
A broad spectrum of red, green and blue colors is used to create this very detailed work. The background is traditionally for Palekh boxes painted in black color. Gold paint and aluminum paints are used to emphasize the details of character costumes, trees of landscapes and architecture.
All five scenes are framed with golden dots, and the edges of the base of the box is decorated with an intricate ornament painted in gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The top part is attached to the base with hinge, and the box rests on four legs.
Under the composition on the front side the artist wrote her name and the village of Palekh.
