This peaceful scene has been painted by a well-known Palekh artist, Sergey Terentiev. This box shows a summer activity of Russian villagers.
Here we can see how some of the village families are spending their weekend in Summer. People are goind out not only for several hours, but can stay at the lake or at the river one or two nights. On this composition we can see several vilagers armed with fishing rods. The fathers are cathing the fishes, youngers are bringing fire wood, somebody just assembled a hut for sleeping and a shelter from the rain. Somebody is cooking a fish soup at the bonfire.
With this composition Sergey is continuing the series of the works related with village outdoor activity possibly have taken place in Palekh, where he resides. Popular fishing spots near Palekh are at the Paleshka river and Lamovoe Lake. And, of course, Volga river, which is about 120 kilometers from Palekh.
The palette is full of bright blue, red and yellow tones that convey the sense of the rural atmosphere in Summer time. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life. The entire scene sparkles brightly with gold and aluminum!
The composition is framed with thick golden dots on the edges of the lid. The sides of the box are decorated with very intricate pattern painted in gold and flowers painted in silver.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
A hinge is fastened from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a wavy platform with eight legs.
