This attractive box has been painted by Mochalova M. from the village of Fedoskino. It features the lady strolling along the streets of medieval Venice. The carnival is in full swing. The girl holds the golden mask, and all people whom she meets are dressed in fancy dresses, and their faces are hidden behind the colorful masks.
The scene is painted in various shades of blue. Gold metal leaf shines through the costumes of characters, their masks, and the street lamp. Some other parts of the composition are highlighted with aluminum powder.
The box's sides are adorned with elegant gold scroll designs. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The black surface of the box's bottom is decorated with silver and gold blurry spots.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and titled ("Venetian Carnival") by the artist.
