Looking at this marvelous composition, you will immediately recognize a Master hand of Sergey Rogatov who is known as Top 10 modern Fedoskino artists. His unique boxes are represented in every catalogue on the Russian lacquer art. He is a Member of the Artist Union of USSR, and a participant of various exhibitions in Russia and abroad. The box shows a gem of ancient Russian architecture situated on the Red Square! St. Basil's Cathedral has long been a symbol of Russia. It was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1561 to commemorate to the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan Khanate. The second name of this magnificent building is the Pokrovsky Cathedral.
The scene is outlined with gold band. The box's sides are decorated with Rogatov's style signature gold ornaments that consist of an innumerable number of scrolls.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge to the left from the scene, and rests on a the four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
