The talented Fedoskino artist Khomutinnikova Elena created this original box.
Here the artist depicts two of the Slavonic gods - the legendary Paradise Birds named Gamayun and Alkonost. They have female faces and female bosoms. Gamaun flies in the skies, but lives in the sea. When it screams, it predicts happiness.
Alkonost rules over weather and wind. It's singing so beautiful that if somebody hears it, he forgets about everything including relatives and friends...
The birds are very well drawn. They have pretty, female faces; bright wings and beautiful tales. The bird's bodies are shines, this illuminus effect is reached with the aid of several pieces of mother-of-pearl that were in-laid under the painting .
The whole surface of the box including the lid, the sides and the base are covered with a different shades of broze oil colors.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The box is hinged and its base is flat. It is signed with the artist's name on the back side of the box.
